The race was moved from the traditional venue of Sutton Park to Clumber Park in Nottingham this year and a strong contingent from the ladies travelled to the new venue.
Leg 1 Becky Straw made her debut for the Club and her enthusiasm was evident from the start. She set off with the leaders on what proved to be a very quick and short course; showing excellent form she brought us back in 4th place with a time of 11:38 which proved to be 8th quickest on the day.
Leg 2 Nicole Roberts ran strongly to gain one place on her first competitive outing for quite a while bringing us back in 3rd place with a time of 12:05.
Leg 3 Hannah Walker was very nervous about the shortness of the course, these concerns proved to be groundless as she turned a 35 second deficit into a lead of 25 seconds with a time of 11:14 which was 2nd quickest on the day.
Leg 4 Sara Treacy set off with a vengeance to hold the lead but sadly this coincided with a wonderful run by Emelia Gorecka who was 3rd in the world Junior Xc champs. Sara held out until well into the 2nd lap but Gorecka wouldn’t be denied
And we finished runners up with Sara having a fine run at 11:42 (9th fastest of the day).
Gorecka’s run was the fastest of the day.
Birchfield overall time was 46:39
Leg 1 Jess Freeman set off with the same enthusiasm as Becky but somewhat predictably found the pace on this short course a bit too fierce so having blown up a bit, recovered and returned a time of 13:52.
Leg 2 Cally Read found this course to her liking and glided round elegantly to a time of 12:52 picking up 15 places on the way
Leg 3 Sue Street also ran to form and will be a great asset to her new club, her time was 13:50.
Leg 4 Ellie Stevens, she of the all year tans showed a strong hint of her talent with an excellent time of 12:18.
Leg 1 Dannii Johnson was determined to have a good run and true to form returned a time of13:20 which made her smile again.
Leg 2 Val Carter despite recovering from a cold ran 14:53
Leg 3 Sarah Capewell came in at the last minute to run 17:19
Leg 4 Tracy Clarke running with a bit of a niggle also ran 17:19
The collective enthusiasm of all three teams in this competition was palpable and I hope it continues in the future.
