Our Race Walkers performed very well at the Midland Area and joint County Race Walking Championships. The Men’s team were a narrow 2nd – Peter, Parminder and Julian carried the Stags to that Midland silver medal position with 280 points, to beat Nuneaton. Leicester Walking Club, took the win 4 points ahead with 284 points. Whilst trio, Parminder, Julian and Dave, also took the Warwickshire County title.
This year’s joint Championships took place at Stourport Sports Club, Kingsway, Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire. The races took place entirely on the cycle circuit in the grounds of the Sports Club. The races comprised of eight 1250m laps. With the weather windy and about 7C, yet surprisingly no rain.
Of the first 3 races of the season, we had three teams in contention for The “Team of the Midlands Trophy” (which we won last season) as well as the Worcestershire and Warwickshire County Championship titles.
Peter Boszko was our first man home in 60:04. A time that was good enough for overall 3rd place, and an individual gold medal in the Worcestershire County Championship.
Parminder Bhatti was our second man home in 67:56. This placed him in 8th overall and he took the silver medal in the Warwickshire County Championship.
The final scoring team member was Julian Barnett in 69:15. This placed him in 9th overall were he gained the bronze medal in the Warwickshire County Championship.
Finally our Team Manager Dave Fall finished the course in 72:29. This placed him in 12th overall and 5th in the Warwickshire County Championship.
Sad to say – we had no new men walkers for either the Standard Awards or anyone for the Staffordshire County Championship.
