Saturday night saw many of Birchfield’s up and coming talent rewarded, for both performance and contribution to club teams, at the inaugural Junior Awards night.
Held in the Clubroom, all award winners were presented with their awards by some of Birchfields’s leading current senior athletes and previous Olympic medallists, including Kelly Sotherton, Laura Samuel, Katrina Hart, Meghan Beesley, Jarryd Dunn and Eden Francis. There were some outstanding performances from our youngsters in 2014 with sprinter Kai Chambers-Brown at the top of this list as a result of him finishing number one in the UK for 100m and number three in the UK for 200m.
In addition to the performance awards young athletes from U11 to U15, received awards for their contribution to the teams in Sportshall, Cross Country and Track & Field and we are hoping they will all continue to represent the Club with pride as they move up the age groups.
Andy Paul, Club Chair at Birchfield, said of the evening:
“These youngsters are the future of our Club and I delighted that we were able to reward them for their achievements in 2014. I look forward to seeing them progress over the next 12 months and improve on these performances. I would also like to thank the team behind the event, Kelly Sotherton, Jayne Hillyard and Keith Holt for all their hard work in putting on such s successful event, which will no doubt become a fixture in our calendar.”
