The Midland & County Road Walk Championships were held on Sunday 1st February at Stourport-on-Severn, an event where our Birchfield Ladies and Men walkers had considerable success, winning five titles and four trophies.
On a cold winters day, the course on Stourport’s cycling circuit presented challenging conditions due to very strong winds continually forcing walkers to a standstill at points and hill climbs.
Peter Boszko finished 2nd in the race. He, along with John Constandinou and Dave Fall, won the Midland team prize and The Dowty Trophy. Peter also won the Worcestershire Championship and John won the Warwickshire Championship with Dave in second place.
Birchfield now has a Senior Ladies Walking Team and they were successful in their first competition. It began with Charlotte Finney winning overall, taking The Barnwell Trophy. Joined by two members of the Mills family, Jessica and Tracey, the team finished in first position overall and were presented with the Ann Smith Cup. The ladies were also successful in the counties, with Charlotte becoming the Staffordshire Champion, and Jessica and Tracey were second and third respectively in the Warwickshire championship.
This was not the end of the awards for Charlotte who also won the Standard Award and received the Margaret Emsley Trophy.
It was a very successful day for Birchfield Walkers and team manager Beryl Randle hopes it is the first of many in 2015.
