Now that the outdoor season is upon us, most of our athletes have been taking part in various competitions. The success of the weekend came from a U13 year old, Sophia Deans, who not only equalled the U13 70 metres Hurdles Club record with her time of 11.60, but also had personal bests at 75 metres and 150 metres with times of 10.28 and 20.58 respectively. She is now ranked No.3 in the UK in 70 metres Hurdles and 75 metres, and 5th in 150 metres. In the West Midlands she is ranked No.1 in the 75 metres and 150 metres and 2nd in the 70 metres Hurdles and 100 metres. She only started learning to hurdle in January so this was only her second competition, and she already equalled the Club outdoor record in her second outing. She is looking to be a multi eventer. She is coached by Sharon Morris.

Sophia was the winner of the ‘Search for our Star’ campaign sponsored by One Stop Shopping Centre last year and thanks to the continued support from One Stop we are launching our 2017 “Search for  Star” at the end of April. One Stop have supported Sophia by paying for her Club membership and 12 months training fees. She also received a pair of trainers from Nike, another of our sponsors.

She is due to compete next on Saturday, 22 April in the YDL meeting in Milton Keynes. We wish her luck.
