Twenty seven Birchfield athletes have been selected to represent their county schools at the English Schools Championships in July, which are being held at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium. This event is the leading competition for young athletes from 13-18 years and the young stags will face some stiff competition as the best athletes come together to compete for the prestigious English Schools title.

Many famous athletes have competed in these championships over the years including our own Mark Lewis-Francis, Katharine Merry and more recently Matthew Hudson-Smith who was the 200m senior boys champion in 2013.

The majority of athletes selected will be part of the West Midlands team and they are:

Junior Boys and Junior Girls

Dylan King – 800m

Ryan Shields – 1500m

Kyle Boden – Long Jump

Rhianna Burrell – High Jump

Leah Okorhi – 100m

Freya Liddington – Long Jump

Cashyila McDonald – 200m

Intermediate Boys and Girls

Rashawn Brown – 200m

Oshay Williams – 200m

Jordan Ricketts – 80m Hurdles

Ben Saunders – High Jump

Cassie-Ann Pemberton – 100m

Lemeyah Isaac – Triple jump

Senior Boys and Girls

Kaie Chambers-Brown – 100m

Steffan Dupey-White – 100m

Tom Dodd – 1500m

Dan Cartwright – Shot

Karys Amory – 1500m

Anya Bates – 100m Hurdles

Nichole Birmingham – Shot

Abbaz Shayam-Smith – Triple Jump

There are also two Stags in the Staffordshire team who are:

Intermediate Girls

Chelsey Marsden – 300m

Jasmin Lovell – Triple Jump

Senior Girls

Imogen Smith – Pole Vault

And finally Candy Lockett and Ellie England have been selected for Hereford and Worcester in the hammer and long jump respectively, and Hollie Williamson for Shropshire in the 100m Hurdles.
