MICKEY BUSHELL WINS SILVER AT WORLD PARA ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The World Para Athletics Championships were held at Olympic Park, London from 14 to 23 July 2017. Mickey Bushell, who was competing in his 4th World Championships, won a silver medal in 100 metres T53 event in a time of 14.85.

Mickey was born with a very rare medical condition called Lumbar Sacral Spinal Agenesis Congenital Paraplegia, which means he is missing seven vertebrae for the lower part of his back.

He took up racing aged 11, inspired by a visit to his school by father of GBR wheelchair racer Debbie Brennan.

He made a massive breakthrough in 2008 when winning a surprise 100m silver at the Beijing Paralympic Games in a European record of 14.86.

In 2010 he secured a silver medal at the Paralympic World Cup over 100m and in 2011 at the IPC World Athletic Championships in New Zealand he claimed silver over 100m and bronze over 200m. In 2012 Paralympic Games he won a 100m gold, and finished 4th in 200m.
