Our teams have been taking part in Midlands Women’s League, Birmingham League and West Midlands Young Athletes’ League over the weekend.

Midlands Women’s League held at Cofton park, Birmingham on Saturday, 13 January 2018

Heading into this match we had a slender lead over Loughborough and Birmingham Uni’s so it was all a bit tense though I knew we had a good team of ladies, fifteen in all.

Half way round the first lap, the race was led by a Loughborough athlete being chased by Chloe Richardson, and a group including Bryony Gunn, Becky Straw, Katie Allen and Fian Sweeney. Not too far behind was Lizzie Watters, Frances Vickers and Sarah Conway. The rest were in the pack.  Typically in cross country there were no great changes in this situation and, at the culmination, the Loughborough athlete scored a strong victory but in 2nd place was Chloe, our first scorer, followed by Becky Straw in 5th, eight seconds in front of Junior athlete Bryony Gunn in 6th. Fian Sweeney, also a Junior, came through to take the all important closing team score in 11th.

Katie Allen was 14th, fifteen seconds back with Lizzie Watters having a fine run to finish 32nd. Sarah Conway continues her come back in 35th and Frances Vickers in 45th. Jenny Parker was 53rd. Kathryn Salt was 93rd. Nicola Ross was 94th. Val Carter was 113th. Kimberley Thomas was 130th. Emily Weir was 143rd. Faye Morley also raced but for some reason she was not included in the results.

This gave us a 5 point victory over Birmingham Uni. and keeps us top of the league with one match to go. All to play for at Aldersley on the 10th of February.
