GREAT WEEKEND FOR STAGS

After the success of our senior men and women in their respective league matches, on Sunday, 3rd June 2018 our Midland League team also won their match at Wolverhampton. Match 2 was at our nearest venue for this season and the athletes supported the team despite the travelling some of them had done over the Friday and Saturday national leagues.  Our age range for this meeting was from U17 to a V40.

The weather was warm and sunny and the stand provided protection from the heat for the athletes, spectators and team managers.  For the second time all of the athletes who had committed to this fixture turned up.  In some cases they not only turned up but went above and beyond for the cause.

We had far fewer gaps than in the first match but some of the gaps were filled by athletes who were there for other events.  A big thank you to all of those who did offer but the biggest offers came from Matthew Missen and Alistair Rutherford who filled in as ‘B’ athletes in the Steeplechase and 3k.  Matthew was doing the 3k but ran as the B 3k steeplechaser as well.  Alistair guested in the 800m/1500m, ran from the 800m to the HJ, then ran the B 3k so that the Club had a full complement of distances athletes.  We are very lucky to have athletes in the Club who will offer to ensure that we have the best result that we can.

Match 2 finished with Birchfield Harriers (subject to scrutiny) winning the match and therefore taking the overall lead in the Division.

I would like to thank the officials, coaches, athletes and parents for their support for the League.

Lyn Orbell
