On Sunday, 1st July 2018, our YDL Upper stags finished second in their third match at Milton Keynes and qualified for the area finals on Sunday, 29th July 2018.

On a weekend when the League found itself up against the British Trials we struggled for athletes and officials.  We lost seven athletes overnight but we managed to cover most of the events due to the standard of the athletes that we had with us.

On a day when many athletes stepped up to fill gaps a special mention goes to Nathan McMahon who came initially from the Academy. When finishing second on the day in 67.44s he got the biggest cheer of the day from the Birchfield contingent who witnessed it.

We led the competition up to the last hour where our lack of athletes in various events caught up with us. The strangest result that we had was in the 2 men’s 4 x 400m relay result. 6 of the 8 athletes were U17 and the U20 team recorded 3:34.66s and the U17 team recorded 3:34.75s.

Once again this team is growing in belief and as we develop athletes in some of the more technical events we will continue to improve.
