Stag black and whiteBirchfield Harriers is the UK’s premier athletics club and has been represented at every summer Olympics bar one since 1908. Based at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham we also have access to the High Performance Centre, an indoor facility which provides indoor training for a range of events including long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot putt, and pole vault.

We offer quality coaching on our club nights on Tuesday and Thursdays and we develop young talent through our Academy which runs on Saturday mornings.


Club Management

The club is managed by a committee of elected officers each of whom has a specific responsibility. In addition we have an administration manager who deals with day to day queries during our office hours which are 9am to 3pm on Mondays, 3pm to 8pm on Tuesdays, 9 am to 1pm on Wednesdays, 3pm to 8pm on Thursdays and 9am to 2pm on Fridays.

Lanes 1 & 2. Wheelchair Racers to have priority until 6.30 pm

Lanes 1,2,3,4,5. Sprints and Endurance, with due consideration for other users

Lanes 6 and 7. Hurdles including 400m Hurdles

Lane 8 Additional Lane for Hurdles in the Home Straight

In Home straight Lane 8 then to 10 Warm up, jogging between reps on track

Lane 9 Jog back in Home straight

Grass Areas. Throws take priority. Running permissible only if throwers are not working and then only with great care/observation.

Coaches, please do not use more than 2 to 3 lanes if other coaches are working on the same area of track. Consideration for others and professional discussion will often resolve working arrangement and facility problems.

All devices which potentially or actually impair the capacity to hear, and thus pose a Health and Safety concern, shall be banned from within the confines of the Stadium.

The definitive warning of impending collision between athletes should be to shout “TRACK


· Use Bad Language, Spit or leave kit close to the Track.

· Train without Vest/Tops or, wear clothing that is inappropriate.

· Throw in any area other than those specifically designated for the event.

· Throw “up the field” towards other throwers or the Cage.

· Cross the centre green whilst throwing is in progress.

· Walk across Javelin, High Jump, Long and Triple Jump or Pole Vault run up areas.

· Use Equipment or soft landing mats/areas, without the supervision of your coach.

· Walk back on the track other than in Lane 9 – it is unfair to other groups.

· Throw drinks bottles on the ground – always place them in your kitbags.

· Eat in, or take Food into, the Training areas! (Sports Drinks and Water are permissible).

· Attempt to use the Free Weights Gym if you are under 16 years of age.


· Show consideration for all other users at all times.

· Look both ways before you cross the track.

· Leave the track/field area when you have finished your session. Return to the Stands or Club Room.

· Return equipment to the Equipment Store after use and book it back into the Store.

· Wear a high visibility and reflective top when you run on the roads or in the park at night (between lighting up times), or in poor light.

· Comply with published specific rules for use of the HiPC and Free Weights Gym.


· You are a Parent, Guardian, Relative or Friend of athletes or a Visitor to the Club, unless a club official is escorting you on official business. You could place yourself in danger and you are not covered by Insurance in such circumstances.
